Personality:
What one first needs to realize with Itona is that through out his time in canon he can be placed into three categories and thus three different "Itona's" if you will since each new stage changed him and made him into who he is and will be by the point of my canon pull point. So to make sense of who Itona is coming into Vaikuntha you have to first see who Itona once was and the journey taken from there.
Itona as a child, from the brief moments we see of him in a flashback, was a typically happy child who idolized his dad and thus the small company that his father had created. Even growing up learning advance electrical engineering to a point it could be seen as genius levels for his age. In fact, it would be very easy to say that Itona's love for anything mechanical and/or electrical stems from his hero worship of his father, both as a way to be like his father and because of how enthusiastic his father was in regards to building something from the ground up that could be of use to others. This idealization takes a harsh and fiery plummet when Itona is basically abandoned by his father when the company goes under in a sea of debt. Leading to quite a bit of betrayed feelings and harder times for Itona as he's now likely a ward of the government (Canon never states just what sort of home life Itona had after being abandoned.) and is bullied by classmates, not only over the fact he was left by a father that 'ran away from his problems', but also because due to this he is now also considered poor.
This leads into the second stage of Itona's life when he was found by 'Shiro'. Hurt, alone, and justifiably angry over his father being too weak to stand up to larger companies that had pulled him down into debt. Itona has taken on the mentality that the only way to live isn't through hard work and dedication, but in being the strongest so no one else can hurt him. Something Shiro uses to groom Itona into a lone wolf assassin that will do whatever is asked to prove he's stronger then Koro-sensie and thus kill him. The transplant of the tentacles make this world view an obsession for Itona. Even as it causes him to mimic a lot of quirks and habits of Korosensei due to the tentacles basically taking over his mind and making him only care about being the strongest.

HISTORY
One day 70% of the moon blew up making it forever a crescent shape within the sky. Not even a day after that mysterious happening class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High School gained a new homeroom teacher. A giant yellow octopus like super creature that boldly claims to have been the cause of the moon's destruction and that in one years time he will do the same thing to earth. Until that time he is going to not only teach this class but hopes this class will be the ones to assassinate him before the year is up.
This Assassination Classroom is where Itona's story begins, in an effort to kill their homeroom teacher to save the world and be rewarded 10 billion yen.
